Gifting Gift Card Boxes

January 5th, 2009 by

People aren’t joking when they say that there are many little details to think of when planning a wedding. Choosing items for your registry can be hard enough, but who knew that there were so many options for decorating the “collection box” for those guests that decide to give cards and cash instead of gifts. Sure, you can opt for a standard box and please don’t let this post make you feel pressured to do anything different. However, if you do have the time and energy, you can really personalize it and make it a point of focus and decoration at your reception.

One option I saw that I LOVE is making the box look like gift boxes that match your wedding color theme. Here’s an example of one.

For the Modern Bride specializes in making these, but I think you could easily make them yourself especially if you have a lot of different boxes left over from the holidays.

Another idea that I’ve seen and love was a photobox like the one below.

Although I love either of these options, I’m going with a traditional birdcage since my venue has one that I can use and decorate. It’s pretty simple and goes with the overall feel of my wedding. Plus, it’s one less thing that I have to make. I’m sure there are many other creative ideas out there, so look around and do what’s best for you.

A friend of ours offered to let us borrow her mailbox gift card holder. She used it at her wedding, customized with ribbons and such in her colors. She then altered it for a friend’s wedding with their colors, and offered (out of the blue!) to customize it for ours. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. One less thing I have to do! It was so sweet of her. I wish I rememebred hers or had a picture though…

I didn’t even think about this for my wedding! I didn’t know people would be bringing cards or gifts considering it was a destination wedding. The reception site had to come up with something. I was so busy dancing, to this day I don’t know what they used!

I love the boxes from For The Modern Bride. I was actually planning to make a similar card box myself, though I’m sure mine won’t be quite that nice!

Those are gorgeous! Since we had a loose picnic theme, we decided to have people place cards in a big picnic basket. Honeysuckle in laws had a box shaped like a house for their cards. Now it houses all sorts of wedding mementos.

I would love to see photos of the big picnic basket and the box shaped like a house! These ideas are all so fantastic!

Love all of your ideas. The stack of boxes is my favorite- even though I, myself, just bought a birdcage for my bluebird-esque wedding. Designing and constructing the boxes would be the best part!

It’s actually a little funny that you brought this up because I was JUST talking to a friend of mine- who went to a wedding where their presents and card box got swiped. (I know… I don’t want to be the Debbie Downer.) I was stunned though. I had never heard of anyone coming and taking all the gifts and cards, right out from under everyone. The groom thought it was someone from the brides side- the bride thought it was someone from the grooms side… and he walked off with everything. Apparently it happens more often than I would have imagined. SOOO- have a wonderfully lovely gift table/card box and then maybe assign someone to keep an eye on it. Don’t have it near an exit, and maybe midway through the night- have your assigned person take all your things to your car- your guests likely wont even notice.
