Faking It

January 29th, 2009 by

Many things go into making a wedding a special event, but I think table linens, cloth napkins, china, and nice flatware can go a long way in creating that “special occasion” vibe at a wedding.

But, I still cannot not justify spending money–more than $300–on these items, especially if it means cutting back on more important elements. Although our caterer offers place settings for a great price, we decided to forgo these rentals in favor of plasticware, which our caterer includes in their starting price.

Some people consider it tacky or cheap to have plasticware at a wedding, but I am not one of those people and neither is Calla Lily Dude, so bring on the disposables. And the plasticware provided by our caterer looks good enough to fake you out!

Amazing, isn’t it? I know I was shocked how real the plastic stuff looks and even happier that we could save money without sacrificing the visual presentation of our wedding.

(Side note: It’s more “green” to have re-usable tableware at events instead of disposables that end up in a landfill, but I figure Calla Lily Dude and I can have a bigger impact on the environment by helping fund more lasting efforts such as renewable energy projects rather than not using plastic tableware products that are being produced anyway.)

I’ll admit, plasticware at a wedding is not right for everyone or every wedding, but it is just one way you can save money.
