Engagement Pics: Part 1

January 10th, 2009 by

Dandelion Dude and I took a Hawaiian vacation in November 2008. While we were there, we thought we should get some engagement pictures done. So we did.

But up until this weekend, all we had of our engagement pictures were the teasers from our photographer James Rubio’s site. Well, on Saturday we got the DVD in the mail and I was soo pleased with everything about them. He even included a slide show with music in the background. I was blown away! Here are a few of our favorites from our Kona, HI photoshoot.

This blue and white building is actually a tiny church on the beach. Did anyone else do their E-pics out of town?

LOVE you pictures! I didn’t get engagement photos because my photographer was in CA and Poppy Dude and I lived in DC, and it was the biggest regret of my life. Well maybe not of my life, but definitely the biggest mistake I made with my wedding. It gives you the opportunity to have nice professional pictures as a couple while in normal clothes. The only nice photos Poppy Dude and I have are the ones in our wedding attire….

Wonderful pictures. Can’t wait to see the rest of it. That picture by the seawall is really nice. Just curious, how many times did you have to change clothes?

They’re beautiful! I would love to see more! I’m not sure yet if we’re even doing engagement photos since Tulip dude hates having his pictures taken.

Fun pictures! Sunflower Dude and I are going to Mexico next week – that’s a good idea for us! Our other plan is to have a friend of ours take the photos. They are sure to be unique because she is a fine art photographer who works in studio, rather than a wedding photographer.

you should totally get them some done by a friend in mexico!! its good practice for the wedding photos.

Hydrangea Dude and I actually ended up with three different sets of engagement photos. 1. Went to JC Penney Portrait studio to do family protrait with his family. There was no extra charge for a sitting for pictures of just us, so we got a few done. Not the best photos, but it didn’t cost us anything extra except the prints. And it was only about a month after our engagement. 2. We went to California, where I’m from, for a visit, and also for an engagement party in June. This was the first time any of my family or friends (other than mom and brother) had seen us since we’d been engaged. So they threw us an engagement party. One of my best friends (and Bridesmaid) is a photographer and we took pictures at a friend’s house in their garden. 3. When we booked our tuxedo package with Classic Tuxedos, they offered a free engagement sitting with free 8×10 portrait. We figured “why not”, so ended up doing another photo shoot in the Boston Public Gardens, where we will have our wedding pictures done. It was nice because these pictures were done in the fall, and our wedding pictures will be in the Spring, so it will be a nice contrast to see the same place in two seasons.

All three of our sets of pictures are so different – posed in the studio, in a casual back-yard setting in the summer, and in the Public Garden in the Fall. I love them all!
