DIY: Getting Engaged |

I know there are “Ladies in Waiting” (aka Buds-to-be waiting for their Dude’s to propose) out there in the BridalBuds community, so this one’s for you!!!
So, my fair Ladies in Waiting, I suggest you consider popping the question to your Dude!
I asked Calla Lily Dude to marry me during our trip to Italy in March 2007, and I absolutely would do it over again. I felt like it was time to take the next step, but I knew he wasn’t going to propose, so I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Although I didn’t really look for resources when considering popping the question, I recently ran across this article about why you should propose to your Dude and the continuation article about how to pop the question.
Honestly, people react with varying levels of shock and amazement when they find out that I proposed to Calla Lily Dude, which I still have not gotten used to after being engaged for almost 2 years, but I love it.
Gone are the days of women only being “allowed” to propose on Leap Day. If you want to stir things up a little and feel ready to take your relationship to the next level, you can stop being a Lady in Waiting and become a Bud by asking your Dude to marry you!

How brave! When you popped the question did you give him a ring? Did you get your own engagement ring too?

Yes, Poppy, both Calla Lily Dude and I wear engagement rings. They are wedding bands that we wear on our right hands and we will switch them to our left hands during the ceremony after we exchange vows. I’ve been told that this is a Chilean custom, but Calla Lily Dude (who is Chilean) can neither confirm nor deny this.

I love that you proposed! Who says that we have to wait around for the man to do it? I commend you for taking the initative.
