DIY: Save the Date Bookmarks

December 31st, 2008 by

Honeysuckle Dude and I are both English teachers, so our wedding planning naturally took a turn for the literary. Our save-the-dates would not be simply magnets or cards. We sent our guests save the date bookmarks! I don’t think sending Save the Dates improved the attendance of out of town guests for our wedding, but they did give a preview for the day. We incorporated the colors and design on other DIY elements.

I picked up the basic supplies from Michaels and Target: plain bookmarks and scrapbooking paper in our wedding colors (totalling less than $12). Then, I designed business cards on Vistaprint (same company Lily Bud used). The template made customizing the business card easy peasy. I changed all the contact info to our wording:

I love how the bookmarks turned out. Here’s how they arrived. Love the green envelopes and dark chocolate card stock (thanks Honeysuckle Mom!).

These bookmarks are charming. Who wouldn’t want to receive this? I’ve received some pretty plain save-the-date cards, which if I leave lying around usually end up in the trash. But this is one that I’d definitely want to keep. Great idea!

Thanks a million for posting this! I totally yoinked this idea. We used several different scrapbook paper designs and ribbon colors to make them each unique. It was a lot of fun and we’re super proud of them.

We’re letting a pro handle the proper invitations but she’s working in the same scrapbook papers we used for the save the dates so they will coordinate.
